Canada romped 10-3 over Britain while Switzerland downed the Japanese hosts 5-3 Tuesday as both winning teams kept a clean sheet in the Olympic men's curling competition.

Canada, fourth in last year's world championship, took command from the start with deuces in both the opening and third ends, then stole three points in the eighth, forcing the British team to concede the game.

Canada improved to 3-0 while Britain and Japan are 1-2.

The Swiss, also 3-0 with four preliminary-round matches to go, jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three ends before holding off charges by the host nation at the Kazakoshi Park Arena in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture in central Japan.

Earlier in the day, Canada overwhelmed the United States 11-3 after just six ends while Switzerland beat Britain 10-4 with two ends left to play.

In women's curling, Sweden remained unbeaten at 3-0 but only after surviving a tough 5-4 victory in 11 ends over Denmark.

With the score tied 1-1 after six ends, Danish skip Helena Blach Lavrsen made a stunning hit and roll behind guards and stole one point. The Swedes scored three more to go up 4-2 but Denmark added two in the 10th end to extend the game.

The women's world champion Canadians, meanwhile, improved to 2-1 after a 7-4 win over Japan. The home squad sank to 1-2 but remained buoyant about getting into the semifinals.

''It wasn't a complete bomb,'' said Japan skip Mayumi Okutsu. ''Our strategy wasn't wrong. What decided this game was simply a matter of the stone curling one more centimeter or not.''

''We will go at full strength and win the rest of our matches,'' Okutsu said. ''Anything we need to correct? Not particularly.'' (Kyodo News)
