Men's biathlon 10 km race postponed due to snow
13:00- Start
Heavy snow and poor visibility forced organizers to cancel the Olympic men's biathlon 10-kilometer individual event Tuesday after all 73 athletes had started the race. The competition has been rescheduled for 12:15 p.m. Wednesday. The snowfall grew heavier soon after the event began at 1 p.m. in Nozawa Onsen, Nagano Prefecture, and was called off 40 minutes later after 16 athletes had already completed the race. According to International Biathlon Union technical delegate Franz Berger, the competition was stopped and canceled because the snowfall, especially at the shooting range, was very bad and at times it was impossible to see the targets for more than two minutes.
